Trilogy Saddles Ambassador

For Tami Hoag The Trilogy Saddle is A Dream Come True

Bestselling author Tami Hoag is a writer and rider who enjoys a dual life at the top of the literary and dressage world. When she’s not astride one of her grand prix dressage horses she can most likely be found buried behind a keyboard working on her next mystery.

There is no question that Tami Hoag is an exceptional person. She has made it to the top in two endeavors in which most people simply don’t. Of the millions of writers in the world, only a small percentage become published authors and of those only a handful make the New York Times Best Seller List. Tami’s books have been on the New York Times Best Seller List 15 times and she has even enjoyed the number one spot on occasion. Her dressage career also puts her in the exceptional category. Of the thousands of enthusiasts who take up the sport of dressage only a small percentage make it to the Grand Prix, Tami Hoag is among that elite group. In fact, today she has several horses she is competing successfully at the Grand Prix level.

So it is not surprising that when Tami selected a dressage saddle she wanted an exceptional saddle and that search lead her to become a devotee of the Trilogy saddle.

Tami got started with Trilogy saddles several years ago in California, “I had a mare that was difficult to fit.  I wasn't happy with any saddle I put on her.  I was at a horse show in Los Angles and the Trilogy rep gave me a saddle to try.  I rode the mare in it, left it on her and took her in the show ring.  I never looked back”. When Tami migrated to Florida for the winter circuit she met Debbie Witty. “I met Debbie several months later, after I had returned to Florida for the winter season. Debbie is awesome.  She's been in the saddle business for a long time, and over the years has developed her vision of the best dressage saddle based on her experiences working with top riders and top horses.  She's always open to questions, is always happy to explain whatever you want to better understand about a saddle's construction or performance”.

Tami became an advocate for Trilogy saddles and told friends about what she liked about the Trilogy saddles. “The balance of the saddle on the horse's back is exceptional.  And the seat is excellent.  The combination of those things also allows for my leg to hang in exactly the correct position”, Hoag explains. When we asked Tami in fun if the title of her latest New York Times Best Seller "Deeper than Dead' is a reflection of the seat of her Trilogy saddle, she never missed a beat. While the real reason for the title is revealed in the book, Tami did tell us, “For sure the seat of the Trilogy saddle is one of the big reasons I love it.  I ride in the Verago model. It allows me close contact to my horse's back but it also allows me the freedom to be where I want.  If I want to sit more to the back of the saddle or more to the center, I have the option to move”.

A lifelong rider, Tami tried a variety of equestrian disciplines before settling on dressage. She grew up in rural Minnesota, where there were not many options for kids who wanted to ride and show English horses. Hoag’s father bought her first western pony when she was nine years old. “Where I grew up, you could ride western,” Hoag said, “Or you could ride western.  I was considered very strange for wanting an English saddle.  Luckily, Tami was as persistent as a child as she is today. When she was 11-years-old she sold advertising on the side of her pony cart and drove in local parades to earn the $60 it cost to buy an ancient Argentine jumper saddle.
That first English saddle born out of sheer determination was just the beginning. As an adult, Tami discovered dressage. She instantly loved the precision, accuracy, beauty and elegance of dressage. Tami and her first dressage partner, D’Artagnon, made their debut in the show ring in 1999. Today, Tami has five horses riding in Trilogy saddles. Tami explained why each of her horses has it’s own Trilogy saddle, “I am a firm believer in every horse having their own saddle because each horse is built uniquely.  If I had five human athletes in my charge, I wouldn't expect them all to wear the same pair of shoes.  Fit and comfort are essential to peak performance”.
A truly exceptional individual, born apparently with a love of English saddles, it is no surprise that today Tami is an ambassador for Trilogy saddles. “Tami’s enthusiasm for our saddles is flattering”, says Debbie Witty, “She is a perfectionist who knows what she wants. Tami is a great advocate and I am really glad we can provide the saddle of her dreams…literally”.
